Finlay and Cotton (Archive Status)

Post by Mark »

Was wondering if it's known what the Archive status is of "Dr Finlay's Casebook" and "The Billy Cotton Band Show"?

Both would be great to hear on 4ex, but there is never any sign of the famous band show, and the only Finlay they do is the Sinclair one.

Wasn't some of the original "Finlay" radio shows released on Cassette?

Greg Marshall's archived site will give you details of the radio FINLAY's - there are 21 episodes in the Sound Archives and TS took a lot, if not all. Copies of most are about anyway as off-airs.

In it's previous incarnation as R7, twenty of the Sound Archive eps were repeated a few times, (the one that wasn't was the longer Christmas special). The Radio Collection set was of the four earliest episodes retained by the Sound Archives.

I don't know for certain but my memory says that I've been told there are very few radio Billy Cotton shows around "officially". Maybe as few as one.

Thanks for that, very interesting, don't recall them on 7 at all.

Shame about "BCBS", the TV version doesn't fare much better either, of course!

I must be mis-remembering, (or they used TS copies), but three BILLY COTTON BAND SHOWS were given an outing on R2 in the 90s.

19-04-92 a 1957 edition
23-04-94 a 1958 edition
30-07-95 a May 1959 edition

Oh that's good news, at least some around then to give a flavour of it, thanks.

This year would be a good one for 4ex to repeat them.
