‘The Saint’ Again As a Possible New Franchise

Post by Razor Eddie »

‘The Saint’ Rises Again At Paramount As Possible New Franchise | Deadline
EXCLUSIVE: The last time I wrote about The Saint, Mace Neufeld, Bill McDonald, Robert Evans, and David Brown were producing it with Val Kilmer. As we know in Hollywood, everything old is new (re-imagined, remade, revamped, rebooted) again and so it goes with the espionage thriller The Saint, for which Paramount has just secured the book series rights. Producing deals are being closed now, but it’s likely that Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Brad Krevoy and Robert Evans will be among the producers in hopes of launching another action franchise at the studio.
Worth a try..
Contents may settle after packing.

I suspect it'll be more like the Mission Impossible films than the books or old series. At least, that's what the term action franchise implies to me.

It'll be interesting to find out, but will it get made. I'm not sure what the ratio is, but Hollywood studios buy the rights to many books but only a handful get made.

It's very easy to be optimistic this early in the prouction cycle but I've spoken at length to the producers and they're very keen to honor the original character whilst bringing it up to date. And the deal is such that they have a fairly tight window to get it in to production...

Pat Holm...? We were going to have her - finally - in the recent version that didn't manage to get off the ground. Poor woman deserves a screen presence, damn it! And if they're serious about bringing it up to date, giving her something to do is the perfect way.

Don't forget she was in the 1943 film The Saint Meets the Tiger...

I don't think I can have seen that! I shall have to look it up. Mind you, Pat herself wasn't really Pat yet in that book. Still, it's a start...

ITV 4 are showing the Moore episodes again, at the moment, well the Colour ones (as usual) anyway.

Are they ever going to release the last pilot version that they made that had the Moore and Ogilvy cameos in it??? Pity if it was left to rot on a shelf somewhere.

Yes. or at least a TV movie-length version of it will be made available to networks shortly.

How many times can you sell the film rights to a book?

Great to see it on Netflix, Ian Ogilvy and Roger Moore together in the same movie!
