The Godfather of sports commentators in Britain, great style and knowledge. RIP
Re: David Coleman 1926-2013
Yes his famous talkback recording was most enlightening to the calm Coleman presented on screen.

I've never been one for sport, but Coleman switching so effortlessly from sports commentator to serious news reporter during the 1972 Munich Olympics was a true reflection of his skill.

Everyone who worked with David has a story to tell about his temper. I was on the receiving end during the 1982 World Cup when I changed a caption in vision when he was still reading from it on air. The tantrum was compounded by the fact he'd initially refused to read it from a monitor and wanted printed copy in his hand but was overruled by the programme editor, Mike Murphy. Despite his reputation for being difficult and sometimes downright cantankerous, he was supremely competent and probably the finest sports presenter/commentator I've ever worked with. RIP Mr Coleman.
