SF/Fantasy/Cult/General TV Podcast Recommendations

Post by cdnbob »

HI all. I was wondering if anyone on the board can recommend any podcasts that cover general sci-fi/fantasy/cult TV (or even general television) to check out. I'm looking to put together a list of these. Thanks.

All the best

Just heard a rather nice chat with Ayshea Brough of "UFO" fame on the ecletic mix of fan culture which is the podcast "The Stone Tapes" - a new title on me. Ayshea is on the (currently) latest offering: Vol 45. Thought I'd flag it up in case anyone else fancies a listen.

Another vote for Round The Archives here! I really enjoy how Lisa and Andrew can make comic riffs out of dull production facts... no, they really can.

Some other recommendations:

The Hammer House Of Podcast
Retrospecticus - The Simpsons And Modern History Together At Last
Don't Point That Horror At Me (about the Point Horror paperbacks)
The Zeitgeist Tapes (politics in pop culture - not every episode relevant to Mausoleumeers but some definitely are)
Betamax Video Club
Don't Let's Chart (may be a touch 'colourful' for some!)

In fact, here's a big list of personal recommendations: https://timworthington.org/2019/04/13/w ... stened-to/

Anyone checked out Whisperers in Darkness on the Sounds App.

Modern takes on Lovecraft's Charles Dexter Ward and the above title. Both really really good, highly recommended.

Distinct Nostalgia are doing some great material on Children's TV, at the moment.

The latest is an interview with Rod, Freddy and Jane from "Rainbow", which is very interesting, with lovely stories about Pamela Lonsdale.

There is one on "Pipkins" coming soon, as well.

As a whole it's not specifically about TV, but there are some good editions of Jason Hazeley and Joel Morris's podcast "Rule of Three".

The subject matter is comedy and each edition features a guest "who makes comedy" who talks about something comedic that they love, which could be a film, a radio or television show (sometimes a whole series, sometimes just a particular episode), or even a record. So plenty of editions will fall well outside of the original request but some will fit the bill. I've found that many editions look at something in the subject matter in a way that I hadn't considered before.

The Distinct Nostalgia "Pipkins" reunion is up now, and it's a belter, great stuff.

Features Nigel Plaskitt, Jonathan Kydd and Gail Renard.

Link in my earlier post...oh and by the way...it was Doctor Stethoscope, of course!

The latest Distinct Nostalgia podcast is an interview with Gordon Burns on "The Krypton Factor".

Last weeks was Henry Kelly on "Going for Gold", and previous to that, "The Muppet Show" and a couple on "Eastenders".

The latest interview on DistintNostalgia is with Ashley Knight, who played Ken in ""Metal Mickey", which is 40 years old this year!

Some great stories about the show, including Irene Handl and Patience Collier.

Also an opportunity for me to play my broken record, and say...as it's the 40th anniversary, how about a box set please Network?, my pre-order finger is poised and ready!

Interview here:

Two more fascinating interviews on Distinct Nostalgia, Christopher Strauli talking about "Only When I Laugh", and Tony Adams on "Crossroads".
