Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
Forces TV are trailing "Please Sir!, although there wasn't any clips from B/W series 1, so maybe they are missing that one out.

Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
TPTV showing a 'Music for Murder' 1965 from No Hiding Place .. June 25 & June 27 evenings.
Amazingly has got subtitles
Looks like a one-off showing but obviously if there is enough interest they might dust the cobwebs off a few more?

Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
Do we know how many exist is a form which can be broadcast at a suitable quality?
Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
Not an expert but I think there are about 20 complete ones out of the original 200 + and this one may be a recent discovery?
However assuming they are export copies even these may not be complete in the sense of a UK transmission and may have had local censor cuts or cut to fit a certain time slot , but then again maybe not?
There are a few others that are incomplete.
Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
CCX channel 23 showing Bless this House 7pm weekdays
Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
But...that clashes with "Please Sir! on Forces TV, who thankfully are also showing "Bless This House".
What's CCX...?

Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
Watching "Please Sir!, on Forces TV earlier tonight, and rather oddly, they have edited the titles of the episode "A Very Nasty Outbreak".
They have stuck the opening seconds of one of the first two final series episodes on it ( crediting John Alderton ) this is to hide the fact that the episode bears the title "The Best Of Please Sir!", perhaps they think it would be more confusing than a John Alderton credit, when he's not in it.

I'm not too familiar with 'Please Sir', it all seems so long ago.Mark wrote: ↑Tue Jul 14, 2020 10:38 pmWatching "Please Sir!, on Forces TV earlier tonight, and rather oddly, they have edited the titles of the episode "A Very Nasty Outbreak".

Surely ''The Best of Please Sir' is an artefact of broadcasting from commercial DVDs?
Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
More likely the digital master made for the DVD than the actual DVD. I may have been easier to send that than a broadcast master, or maybe as usual it was send whatever was at hand at the time.
Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
Not in this case though, one or two episodes of series 4 have the title "The Best Of Please Sir!", which came from a repeat showing, back in the 70's, why they used an altered title sequence I don't know, seems to be a lot of trouble.
Not even sure why these episodes only exist in this form either, but I taped the series when shown on Granada Plus, before any commercial releases, and the "Best Of" titles were present.
Also of interest, I was watching the episode "David And Goliath" tonight, which ends with a scene of Brown threatening Dix with a rifle ( not loaded) in the staff room. leading to the unpleasant Dix character leaving.
When G+ originally showed the episode ( around the time of the horrific Dunblane incident) the bulk of the rifle scene was edited out, and replaced with a caption reading: '2 minutes later' ( or '60 seconds later', one or the other).

Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
Could 'The Best of Please Sir' have been a repeat strand?
Possibly to enable out-of-order episodes to be repeated, rather than give the impression of a series repeat?

Re: Coming soon on Freeview Channels
That is indeed what it was, but why does a couple of them survive, seemingly as the master copies?

"Sykes" starts on Forces TV, on November 3rd ( as Andy Marriot hinted at, on his radio themes show a while back).
