Re: "Ace Of Wands" series 2 50th

It makes no sense at all why 1 & 2 are missing entirely...as Thames was not bothered about the cost of videotape (which was cheaper at that time as well). Its predecessor SMITH survives in its entirety. A serial with more episodes is much easier to sell internationally than one with fewer. But then ...

Re: "Ace Of Wands" series 2 50th

Yes it always felt like a summer -ery series and 1 & 2 with Judy Loe IIRC had more of a leftover hippie jive to them..cool man! Can't believe it vanished without a trace and I think (to make matters worse) that its sales abroad would have been limited due to perhaps other markets considering its the...

Re: Brights boffins, any hope?

Do you remember it? if you do would like your opinion on it. This is just my opinion and I don't want to put the mockers on your pursuit as memories play tricks. IIRC I found it rather silly and childish and way down the level of what companies like Thames and ATV were putting out in the 5 o'clock- ...

"Morecambe And Wise; The Lost Tapes" on ITV, July 28th, 9pm. Showing clips from the recovered October 1970 show, found by the family, last year. The BBC must have been approached about this?... very odd they turned it down. If it's a b/w TR doubt if anyone at ITV will have a clue about the colour r...

Re: Stranger Things: When sitcoms strain to be different

Trying to think of an early Joanna Lumley sitcom and suddenly it was there. 'It's Awfully Bad for Your Eyes, Darling' (BBC around 1970) Four posh girls share bedsit ..lasted about 5 minutes , so perhaps there was nothing else there to sustain it? featured Anna Palk and promising Avenger girl Jennife...

...and a further edition the following Monday. Mon 05 Jul 07:35 Going A Bundle - Navy I don't quite remember it- but saw one on TP a few weeks ago, what a great little programme, excellent pairing of Harry and James both known for playing characters at opposite ends of the characters' spectrum.

Re: Adventures of Robin Hood TPTV

Ah I see so it's the end of the first series of Robin Hood so maybe they buy them in seasons and it will be back with the second season at some point. I noticed Main Chance was produced by Peter Willes (formally at AR) prolific producer of high-standard stuff, including many single plays that is a s...

Adventures of Robin Hood TPTV

Perhaps someone can confirm but it looks like TPTV has given up on screening anymore ITC Robin Hood episodes? I say given up as we know there were loads more left..perhaps they ran out of steam with the viewers? who beg for archive programmes but then get tired of watching them LOL I suspect that Th...

Re: Holby City Cancellation

Lew Grade once said one of the worst decisions he made was to cancel the long-running Emergency ward 10 as there was always room for a hospital drama. He replaced it with Market in Honey Lane an East End London pre-EastEnders which was actually packed with dramas going on IIRC, explosions. robberies...

What a good idea. Annette sounded as lovely as she looked, and you can imagine what a happy set Randall and Hopkirk was with those three . ..and some interesting revelations about Catweazle Renee said they never worked late as the budget had been reduced on the 2nd series and they could not afford t...

Re: Studios re naming ethnic actors

With his ethnic English name Archibold Leech he probably needed to change it to Cary Grant to get the glamorous roles he was associated with, so too with his ethnic name of William Pratt he might not have been known for horror films unless he had changed it to Boris Karloff.

Some nice pictures from the 200th show, Bob and a giant Birthday cake, pulls a slice away with Yutte Stensgaard inside, also shots of guests including Patrick Allen and Golden Girl Chelsea Brown.

Now there is a wishful thought Sexton Blake and Orlando turning up,my goodness they made enough episodes and you would have thought Thames would have kept some SB with the final 2 seasons at least in colour. It is dreadful. It says something when it’s not the funniest episode despite M and W being in it. Can't think of many if any performers that were given the number of breaks that they were, even Lew Grade tried to make them international, but it all seems to come back to the 6 or 7 years they were i...

Re: Journey of a Lifetime - Network release

Nice release. Wasn't it this series that Church goers missed some programmes, so copies were lent to them to watch? The copies were more for educational establishments I think, as it was not pushing religion but more a historical mini drama, travelogue. But obviously, the sites they were visiting w...

It does indeed, and the tape even has some interviews beforehand - Bill Grundy interviewing Dame Sybil Thorndike (who had played the role of Mary Broome many years earlier) and both Olive McFarland and Robert Stephens (who were in the Granada production of the play). I've only seen it via a VHS vie...

Journey of a Lifetime - Network release

Just another mention for Network's rather quietly released Journey of a Lifetime 1961 An early colour programme from ABC. Wasn't the play recommended to be destroyed due to its controversial theme about abortion? The ITA board of watchers had influential church members on it then, so they may have indeed been not amused by what they saw.
