CFP: Doctor Who Reader (Oct 15, 2021 abstracts due)

This came up in one of the academic feeds that I use; posting the details here in case they're of interest to anyone. Paul Booth, Matt Hills, Joy Piedmont, and Tansy Raynor Roberts (editors) are seeking chapters for Adventures In Space and Time: A Doctor Who Reader, a collection to be part of Blooms...

"Upstairs Downstairs"

After having caught only odd episodes during the original run of the 1970s and the repeats of the 1980s, it's an utter delight to finally get a chance to watch this through on Talking Pictures. Julie and I are stockpiling editions and watching around four at a time on a monthly basis... and the stan...

"The Brokenwood Mysteries"

So good to have this back on Drama. Well-written, perfectly cast, fun stories... easily one of our favourite murder mystery series.

Re: Fanderson Podcast

The new Fanderson podcast - #10 - is very enjoyable. It's a discussion about the "Thunderbirds" episode "End of the Road" with Ian Fryer - who's always knowledgable and reliable and did a great article comparing AP Films' early stuff with contemporary shows in the most recent "FAB" - and also Kirsty...

Just been listening to the latest edition with Mark Cousins discussing his research into the career of Peter Sellers... and it's rather brilliant. Goonpod - a Goon Show/Goons podcast

I've heard a few editions of "Goonpod" now and they're rather enjoyable (particularly with regards to hearing different tales of how people discovered the Goons). So, I figured that I really should flag it up here in case it's of interest to others: https://open.spotify.com/show/1UMgfLWlw2K23OyWbtxg...

Shame we can't see the "Maigret" though.
Some of the location footage shot for "... Lost Life" is actually reused in some of the episodes of the series that follows.

Tengy Talks TV & Movies: The Goodies

More very enjoyable capsule reviews from Tengy. I'm finding a lot of value in these and it's really nice to get a new perspective on these programmes from somebody who's clearly thriller to rediscover the show:

Re: Earliest overseas filming for BBC/ITV shows.

I believe that a number of BBC plays in the 1950s had overseas filming. "The Creature" certainly had location material shot in the Swiss Alps in January 1955 and I suspect there are other examples - certainly there was shooting in Paris for inserts into "Maigret and the Lost Life" in 1959. All the b...

This week's edition was one of the best things that we've seen this week.
