On the buses blu ray in future?

Would love to see a blu ray release of all 3 on the buses films, I would assume the original film elements (negatives still exist) the steptoe and son films could do with a similar restoration.

Re: Early Armchair theatre on videotape

Speaking of Videotape, do the BFI still hold the videotape of episode 6 of series 1 of Callan? "You should have got here sooner" ? It hasn't had a proper 405-625 electronic conversion like episode 1 has "the good ones are all dead" has had done. I hope we aren't stuck with the optical conversion of ...

Re: Early Armchair theatre on videotape

Not AT but Granada's Mary Broome play from 1958 survives on videotape I believe. (Harry H Corbett) It does indeed, and the tape even has some interviews beforehand - Bill Grundy interviewing Dame Sybil Thorndike (who had played the role of Mary Broome many years earlier) and both Olive McFarland an...

Re: Early Armchair theatre on videotape

I see all of series 3 from 1956 is held as 35mm telerecordings. Do these only have optical soundtracks or magnetic soundtracks?

Re: Early Armchair theatre on videotape

I'm glad we have the Magnum for schneider "Callan" pilot but a shame the pilot of "never mind the quality feel the width" is missing. Thames kept all plays from 1970-74 but wiped all of their 1969 plays. Only the play "Edward the confessor" has been recovered on a 16mm telerecording.

Early Armchair theatre on videotape

Recently bought the volume 4 dvd and was surprised to see the play "lord arthur savile's crime" 3 January 1960 survives on videotape. It appears to be the earliest armchair theatre to survive on tape. The second earliest play on videotape seems to be "after the funeral" 3 April 1960 as the BFI hold ...

Callan Series 1 episode 6 Proper Transfer?

Apologies if this question has been asked in the past but I was wondering if the other surviving episode from series 1, episode 6 you should have got here sooner will actually get a proper electronic conversion to 625 lines? The first episode the good ones are all dead got a professional transfer fr...

Re: the original Kitten Kong

Didn't someone actually record the Australian showing of the original kitten Kong from 16mm B&W recording but recorded over the tape with the 72 version unaware of the originals significance? Also I saw on Facebook a while back that Phillip Morris said he had a 16mm copy of kitten kong but I assume ...

Question-- Audio quality on film productions vs Videotape productions

Just a quick enquiry, what I have noticed with most (not all) 60/ 70s programmes is that the sound quality on a production made on videotape that the studio audio quality is much better and clearer sounding than something shot on a studio on film, like in the avengers. The sound of the dialogue soun...

Re: Doomwatch--What missing episode would you like to see?

The only PAL master tapes to survive from series 7 and 8 are The ambassadors of death Part 1, The Claws of axos Part 1, The claws of axos Part 4 and the daemons Part 4.All look great compared the NTSC tapes for other episodes and decent but not as good film recordings. Such a shame the NTSC tapes th...

It's strange because fredowl told me he noticed (I quickly checked it out) that the smile camera script mentions end credits were the side profile shot of tarots head on the scripts with the sine wave going through it with the credits superimposed over his head. So that seems definite. Can you remem...

I know you have told me you can't recall too much about the original opening titles, but I was talking to fredowl on twitter and he said it might have been possible that the series 3 opening titles were used for series 1 and 2 as well but that doesn't match up with viewers memories of the oscillosco...
