Yes, just heard the news on Radio 4. What a sad loss - we lost David Croft a couple of years ago so I suppose it was inevitable.

Does anyone remember a series he presented on BBC2 (and subsequently BBC1) called Turns, where he presented clips of old music-hall turns? He didn't often appear in front of the camera.

Yes - used to be on quite late at night.

Worth a repeat on BBC4 I would have thought as it doesn't date.

"Turns" was a great show, lots of great clips on that, including the old "What's in the Box?" routine.

What a wonderful writer he was, loved all his shows, from "Dad's Army" to "You Rang M' Lord".

Timeless classics.

It's quite right that "Dad's Army" is on eternal repeat.

It's good to see that Hi-de-Hi! is currently on the BBC too. Jimmy Perry's 'period' sitcoms are among the best, especially Dad's Army!

One satisfying element to the writers series, ( which I think we discussed on the "IAHHM" thread, a while back) is they all had such good emotional endings.
