The "i" newspaper informs me that today is the 75th anniversary of her TV debut, at the age of 13 on a BBC variety show called Cabaret Cartoons.

EDIT: Genome - sorry, BBC Programme Guide - says it was actually 30th July 1946, so a small discrepancy. Anyway, here she is (15:00), billed as "the young singer".

If Wikipedia is to be believed, her radio debut was at the age of nine in 1942; and earlier this year she recorded a song called "New Flag" with the John Williams Syndicate for the album "Out of Darkness" (authorized link). 79 years in showbusiness and still going must be some sort of record, surely?

I was watching the Arthur Askey film "Back-Room Boy" on TPTV a couple of weeks ago, and discovered the brilliant little girl playing Jane, Vera Frances is now 90, she was also in the film version of "ITMA".

Same age as Kenneth Cope, in fact.

I've just finished watching The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe. I thought I'd recognised actor Peter Martin (Jim and Barbera's neighbour in the Royle Family) playing Darwin's father but it was actually the comic Freddie "Parrot Face" Davies. Similar faces, and curiously nothing like a parrot.

Anyway, I'm pleased to see they both belong here. Martin is 87 and Davies 84.
