I was pleasantly surprised to find that John Astin is still alive. Was watching Freaky Friday today as you do and thought I would double check that he was Sean Astin's stpe dad.

...and Dame Julie Andrews is, unbelievably, 85 today.

Brian Murphy was mentioned elsewhere - he was 88 last week!

Today is the 96th birthday of Prof Sir David Butler, who was on all BBC election night programmes from the very first in 1950 until 1979 (and made guest appearances on several since then).

John Alderton is 80 today.

(I think the qualifying age for this thread was set at 85, but it hasn't had any posts for a while.)

An ad came up on my browser a couple of weeks ago saying "You won't believe Petula Clarke at 90." She appears to actually be 88, but she's physically well and independent and still has all her faculties.

Lionel Blair also reached 92 last month - a few days earlier on the 12th December.

Petula Clark will be presenting a special musicals-themed edition of Sounds of the Sixties on Radio 2 next Saturday.

Happy 81st birthday to Carole Ann Ford. She made Susan a great, out of the ordinary, character at the start of Doctor Who - so well.

The "i" newspaper informs me that today is the 75th anniversary of her TV debut, at the age of 13 on a BBC variety show called Cabaret Cartoons.

EDIT: Genome - sorry, BBC Programme Guide - says it was actually 30th July 1946, so a small discrepancy. Anyway, here she is (15:00), billed as "the young singer".

If Wikipedia is to be believed, her radio debut was at the age of nine in 1942; and earlier this year she recorded a song called "New Flag" with the John Williams Syndicate for the album "Out of Darkness" (authorized link). 79 years in showbusiness and still going must be some sort of record, surely?

Having just heard the Beverley Sisters on the radio, I'm reminded that Teddie is still with us at the age of 94.

I was watching the Arthur Askey film "Back-Room Boy" on TPTV a couple of weeks ago, and discovered the brilliant little girl playing Jane, Vera Frances is now 90, she was also in the film version of "ITMA".

Same age as Kenneth Cope, in fact.
